Welcome to California Lowlines

Hi and welcome to our website. Nadine and I are honored you chose to visit us. We are committed cattle ranchers seeking excellence in our cattle as proved by their performance in shows and superiority in quality as demonstrated at the dinner table.  We focus on grass-fed, all natural beef and we finish the beef ourselves (our cattle are not shipped to a feed lot for final finishing - i.e. weight gain).  At no time during the finishing process do we use any grains to add weight.  Our breed of cattle, Lowlines, marbles well on grass and does not need grain to achieve a superior taste, the ultimate by which we judge any beef.  We start with the basics. First we focus on award-winning genetics. We have three herd-sires servicing our herd. Durango is the 2006 Grand Champion Bull at Boulder County Fair, Iowa State Fair, and the Northern International Livestock Exposition. Supersonic, our second herd-sire, is the 2007 Grand Champion Bull at National Western. Our third herd sire is a recent addition and is the Grand Champion Bull at the 2008 and 2009 National Western Lowline Shows.  Our females include genetics from Australia, Lady Abigail and Yerrinbank Annie, Bar J Ellie, NWSS Reserve Grand Champion 2007 Cow Calf Pair and Gypsum, Grand Champion Heifer at the Iowa State Fair in 2006 and 2007 NWSS Reserve Grand Champion Senior Heifer Calf.

Our Ranch

Our ranch is a modest 168 acres located in the heart of the Santa Rita Appellatia(click here to see our latest pictures). The Santa Rita Appellatia is well known for its delightful Pinot Noir. Although we are not vintners, we do enjoy the ambiance of the area and are blessed with several wineries as neighbors producing some awesome grapes. We are 12 miles west of Solvang, a small Danish village providing tourists with authentic Danish food, souvenirs and wonderful events such as summer outdoor plays. We have approximately 100 acres of farmland which we use to grow our hay, both oat and alfalfa.
