Welcome

Hi and welcome to our website. Nadine and I are honored you chose to visit us. We are committed cattle ranchers seeking excellence in our cattle as proved by their performance in shows and superiority in quality as demonstrated at the dinner table. We believe in the basics. First we start with award-winning genetics. We have two herd-sires servicing our herd. Durango is the 2006 Grand Champion Bull at Boulder County Fair, Iowa State Fair, and the Northern International Livestock Exposition. Supersonic, our second herd-sire, is the 2007 Grand Champion Bull at National Western. Our females include genetics from Australia, Bar J Ellie, NWSS Reserve Grand Champion 2007 Cow Calf Pair and Gypsum, Grand Champion Heifer at the Iowa State Fair in 2006 and 2007 NWSS Reserve Grand Champion Senior Heifer Calf.

California Lowlines - Mother and Calf

Second, we focus on small, gentle cattle. It is a proven fact that calm, gentle cattle do better in converting feed to beef than nervous ones. Studies here in the US and Australia have verified this. Secondly we have chosen the Lowline breed, a small version of Angus, as the basis for our herd. These wonderful animals have the excellent quality that they finish well on grass as opposed to needing intense grain finishing to give them the requisite marbling to make the meat taste delicious.

Third, we believe in a natural nutrition program for our cattle. We feed them a diet of oat and alfalfa hay with mineral supplements. We grow all of our own oat and alfalfa hay on our ranch and do not use any pesticides or chemicals. Through strict control of their dietary intake, we maintain a consistency in their growth and reproductive cycles. By strictly controlling our animals’ diet we desire to achieve the healthiest possible stock and food for our customers. It is well documented that “all natural beef” (hormone free, fed on all natural vegetable diet) is high in nutritional value and high in Omega3 anti-oxidants.

We focus on superior conformation. We have a careful selection program in place of those animals which conform to our standard for the Lowline breed. A copy of the breed standard can be obtained from our registry at www.usa-lowline.org.

Finally, we are strong believers in the Gene-Star data as a means for selecting those animals that are predisposed to marbling and tenderness. We use this data in our matings to achieve the highest levels for each of these qualities.
These are the basics that we believe in and stand by. We again thank you for visiting our site and hope you will browse through it for a more detailed picture of who we are.

Our best to you,
John and Nadine de Bruin
